Farner-Bocken Company Announces Purchase of Former Woodmarc Buiding in Winterset Farner-Bocken Company, a Carroll-based firm that is a distributor of convenience and broadline food service products throughout 14 states in the upper Midwest, announced that it is expanding its operation to Winterset, Iowa. The company has purchased the former Woodmarc manufacturing facility that consists of over 250,000 sq ft of usable space. The new owners will be Winterset Economy Warehouse LLC, an affiliate of Farner-Bocken. Paul Francis, chief financial officer of the firm, said that Farner-Bocken considers the Winterset location an opportunity to expand its warehousing capabilities outside of Carroll. “Management of the company determined that we needed to establish overflow capacity and Winterset fit the bill. We will utilize the Winterset location as another of our out-bound cross-docking locations. We will store seasonal good purchases in bulk, advance buys on special pricing items, special print jobs that are required by our customers, and inventory that could become tight if the suppliers run low. We also like the fact that it is in a strategic position from either Interstate 80 or 35. “We are pleased to welcome Farner-Bocken Company to Winterset, “ said Mayor Jim Olson. “ I have personally known some of the family in senior management roles there for over 30 years. They are a tremendous family-owned company and Winterset is fortunate to get them. They have demonstrated great corporate values and will be a welcome addition to our business community. Their choice reinforces what we know to be true; that Winterset and Madison County is a great place to locate your business.” Wayne Martens, chief executive officer of Madison County Development Group, said, “We have been actively seeking a good business to operate the former manufacturing facility. Proactive marketing efforts included personnel from the state Iowa Department of Economic Development, Iowa Area Development Group, and commercial real estate brokers. We are pleased that a company the caliber of Farner-Bocken has chosen to expand their operations here.” He also added that he has been acquainted with Farner-Bocken for over 20 years stemming from his time working in western Iowa. They exhibit an exceptional level of customer service and take their corporate responsibilities in the communities they operate seriously. The company will be adding around 6-7 employees initially this summer, Francis said. The company will not utilize all of the space immediately and additional business activity and employees are planned.
