SmithCo Manufacturing Inc. got its start from the day to day trucking operation of Smith Trucking of Lawton, Iowa. Greg Smith founder of SmithCo Manufacturing adapted an early design of Side-Dump technology to produce a trailer that would meet the Federal Bridge Formula while eliminating end dump trailer tip-over.

After producing several trailers for his own use, Greg founded SmithCo Manufacturing in 1993. Since then SmithCo has gone from producing 3 trailers with 4 employees in its first year to producing over 300 trailers with 65 employees in 1999.

In late 1998 ground was broke for a new 70,000 sq. ft. facility. Completed in 2000, this new facility can produce up to 800 trailers a year giving SmithCo Manufacturing the physical capacity to increase annual production by almost 300 percent.

Currently, SmithCo Manufacturing produces several different models of Side-Dump trailers for primarily road and building contractors, aggregate producers, demolition contractors, governmental bodies, the waste handling & environmental clean-up industry and erosion control contractors.
