Wal-Mart Distribution Center

Venture Award Recipient in 2002
Nominated by Access Energy Cooperative

In 1984 the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Mount Pleasant became home to the ninth distribution center required to supply the growing chain of Wal-Mart stores efficiently.  The 1,000,000 sq.ft. facility in Mount Pleasant was designed to serve 150 stores in the   Midwest.  As Walmart continued to grow a new “door-per-store” concept was successfully adopted for the Mount Pleasant facility.  After two years of planning a $30 million dollar, 273,000 sq. ft. expansion was added to the distribution center.  Mount Pleasant is now one of the most productive door-per-store facilities in the Wal-Mart company.
