The Iowa Area Development Group (IADG), in collaboration with its Rural Electric Cooperative partners, proudly honored three Iowa companies with the Iowa Venture Awards at a luncheon held in conjunction with the Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative and Corn Belt Power Cooperatives’ annual meetings.
One of the honorees of this legacy award is Phil Dornbier Trucking, Inc, nominated by Prairie Energy Cooperative.
Phil Dornbier Trucking was founded by Phillip and Michelle Dornbier in 2004 and initially operated from their home and then a commercial space in Garner in 2018. Recognizing the need for a dedicated facility to support their expanding operations, Phil and Michelle acquired 2.2 acres of land from Prairie Energy Development and the City of Garner in December 2023. Construction of the new facility was completed in 2025.
The new facility is a testament to the Dornbier’s dedication to efficiency and employee well-being. It features a fully equipped shop for in-house truck repairs, modern office spaces, a comfortable lounge and kitchen area, and laundry facilities. This enhanced infrastructure will streamline operations and create a more supportive environment for the company’s growing team.
Phil Dornbier Trucking currently operates 12 semis and dispatches four owner-operators. The company employs three office staff, including Phil and Michelle, and nine drivers, contributing to job growth in the local community.
The project was made possible in part by the support of Iowa Cooperatives, renowned for their commitment to rural economic development. Prairie Energy Cooperative and Corn Belt Power Cooperative partnered through their Revolving Loan Fund programs, providing crucial financial assistance to help the Dornbiers realize their vision.
“On behalf of Prairie Energy Cooperatives employees, directors, and members, we extend our sincere appreciation to Phil and Michelle Dornbier for their vision, dedication, and investment in the Garner Touchstone Energy Industrial Park”, says Tim Marienau, Prairie Energy Cooperative’s CEO.
The new facility represents a significant milestone for Phil Dornbier Trucking, positioning the company for continued growth and success in the years to come.
